- A compact daypack is ideal, especially if porters are provided by your guide. Note: According to Machu Picchu regulations, backpacks cannot exceed a maximum capacity of 25 liters. Should your backpack surpass this limit, park rangers will request you to store it for the duration of your guided tour, for a fee (currently 5 soles per bag).
- Water Storage:
- Water reservoirs like Camelbacks or refillable water bottles (2-3 liters total capacity). Note: Plastic bottles are not allowed on the trek.
- Footwear:
- Comfortable hiking boots with good soles (lightweight) or trail runners with excellent grip. Waterproof shoes are recommended.
- Clothing:
- 2-3 wicking t-shirts
- 1-2 hooded sun shirts (UPF 50 if possible)
- 2-3 hiking pants
- 4 sets of undergarments
- 4 sets of hiking socks
